What is our pen made from? 

The body of the pen is made from a clever mixture of hemp, cornstarch and sugarcane. This is a first of it's kind biopolymer composite in that it contains hemp hurd (grown by us). The very point of the pen (technical term nib) is made from brass, which although we recycle, is far from compostable. Given it took 5 years, millions of dollars, and a team of 60 engineers to design just this one intricate piece of the pen, we've settled for this for now.

 

Is your material actually compostable?

Yes! During our R&D phase we ran compost trials with the samples that were produced in the lab and within 4 weeks the dogbone samples were already breaking down. Fast forward several months and there is almost nothing left but the string and label we tied around them. While our material is not yet certified home compostable, we encourage you to try it yourself and find out just how natural our material is. 

 

Why pens?

Almost every single pen that is used around the globe today contains either cheap mass produced polypropylene plastic or metals and other chemicals. There is currently no environmental alternative to solve this global waste issue other than choosing not to use pens. If we could successfully pull off making an environmentally responsible alternative with something as intricate as a ballpoint pen, then we believe anything else is possible. 

 

Where are you located?

We are located in sunny Hawkes Bay, on the East Coast of the North Island. While we have a bit of a home office set up at current, we travel everywhere to catch up with clients and businesses interested in our product. How does company branding work?

Depending on your specific branding requested, we can either help design your company brand or logo on our pens, or you come to us with your ideas and we order and deliver from there. 

 

Do you have a minimum quantity order?

Short answer no. However for company branding, we require you to cover the cost of the initial design and printing of the pens. Essentially the larger the order the more economical. Email us at sales@storx.nz to find out more. 

 

What are your pen colours?

Only black at the moment, but we are currently working on red and blue.

Can your material be used for other products?

Yes it certainly can and we have plans to create new products in the near future. We would also like to work with other companies helping them to recreate products of their own using our compostable material.
